No one has celebrated World championships as a member of both the Red Sox and the Yankees in a shorter time frame than Eric Hinske. Ramiro Mendoza came closest, winning rings four years apart, and next is Babe Ruth with a five-year gap (along with Wally Schang, Joe Bush, Sam Jones, and Carl Mays). This may be the only time Babe Ruth has come up short to Eric Hinske in some statistical measure.
Hinske can be forgiven for keeping his hands in his pockets. While his teammates can truly cut loose, he’s still wondering which World Series contender will trade for him at mid-season next year.
